SPEAKER_00:

Welcome back to the Derm Expert Podcast. Today we have a special treat. We've brought together our Derm Center Provider Dream Team. Yeah, it's a kind of a festive episode. We're gonna walk you through our holiday gift guide, dermatology edition. Yes. So welcome back, Chandler Autumn. Thank you. Thank you. So, you know, gift giving at the holiday, do you prefer giving, you know, skincare gifts to your family and friends? Or do you typically kind of stray away from that?

SPEAKER_02:

I have always loved to give skincare gifts. Now that I'm actually a provider, I have much more insight, I feel like, about what people actually appreciate. And now it's less products and more services because people love to get services. And it's great, it's super beneficial, microneedling and chemical peels. And we usually have good holiday deals. So I think both of those would be great options. Um, but I do like gifting skincare for sure.

SPEAKER_04:

Same. Really? Um, and I think it falls perfectly in line with like chemical peel season. So that's true. Perfect timing. Um skincare gifts, I don't typically I give more to my girlfriends than family. Um my family probably is just sick of me.

SPEAKER_00:

They're like, no more sunscreen. We're good.

SPEAKER_04:

Um, but definitely my girlfriends, um yeah, I love all things skincare.

SPEAKER_00:

So before we get into our skincare guide, yes, we're gonna do a little fun activity. Okay. So since it's the holiday season, tell me what is your favorite thing to either cook or bake at Christmas time?

unknown:

Oh gosh.

SPEAKER_02:

Well, I'm just learning to cook and bake. But right now, my favorite thing to actually cook or bake would be sourdough. And I think sourdough bread? Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

And it's just like Martha Stewart. This is just a new thing.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, I need to give you some starter.

SPEAKER_00:

You really should because I have watched so many videos and I'm like, oh my gosh, this is really complicated. It looks like it. Right?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

How long did it like days?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I mean, you can cook it same day. I proof it overnight so I can split it up into two days and you put it in the fridge. So that's that's what I normally do. I mean, that's that's pretty good. Um, my first one I ever made, I made it shaped like a pumpkin just with like some twine. And I was really amazed with myself because I can't, I'm notoriously not a great cook. And so being able to bake something, I think I've found like actually what I feel like I'm good at. So anyway, sourdough only because I cook, that's probably all I know how to cook or bake right now. Yes, I did that too. Wait, I haven't seen this one. Uh was there the cinnamon swirl? Yeah. It was a cinnamon swirl one or apple butter cinnamon.

SPEAKER_00:

How did I miss that?

SPEAKER_02:

I just showed Autumn a picture, I think.

SPEAKER_00:

I'm impressed, Chandler.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm gonna make it say you don't cook or bake. This is a new thing for me.

SPEAKER_00:

I love it.

SPEAKER_02:

I'll bring one to the office. Please do. Bring me the recipe. I will I seriously will. Me too. Me too.

SPEAKER_04:

I feel like it's such a commitment to make. Yeah. You have to like feed it and keep it alive. And like I have to keep enough things alive and like I can take on sourdough, but I will gladly eat it and test all of the recipes.

SPEAKER_00:

I think too much commitment for sure. Yeah, like for me, I'm like, give me a 30-minute, maybe an hour long project, and I can start it and finish it. But like, yeah, days, man, that's a yeah. What if it didn't turn out and you had spent two days working on it? That's my thing. You know, try again. What about you?

SPEAKER_04:

So we always um my family is Portuguese. So my dad's family is Portuguese. Um, and every Thanksgiving we make a Portuguese dressing.

SPEAKER_01:

What's that?

SPEAKER_04:

Um we use like a sauce, Portuguese sausage that my nana would always order. Um, all these different seasonings and everything, and it's so different from a regular uh dressing. So we make a ton at Thanksgiving and then we freeze them so we can have some for Christmas too.

SPEAKER_00:

Autumn, I have known you for so long. How have I never known this?

SPEAKER_04:

I'm just full of surprises.

SPEAKER_00:

Literally, you bring that, I'll bring sourdough. And then Emily, what about you? My list is so long of the stuff that I like. Literally, it's a thing. It is like this could be a whole podcast episode, no kidding, I'm just like what I like to cook and bake. No kidding. But I will say, I like to bake way more than I like to cook. Yeah, I like to cook too, but I really like to bake. Yeah, it's like the whole concept of like measuring and mixing and it turns it. It's exact, and I like that. I follow a recipe like to the T when I make something. Yeah, so which that I believe that should come as no surprise, y'all.

SPEAKER_04:

That's why I love to cook, is because I want to like straight a little of this, yeah, a little of that. Like every time I make it, I want to like I have no idea what I put in it, but I just that's why I like cooking.

SPEAKER_00:

That's why we are such a good blend, y'all. I was about to say that perfectly fits both of your personalities. I mean, it does, actually. Okay, so let's get to it. Gift guide. So if you're buying a gift for family and friends, because you know, skincare things that you buy can be very personal. So skincare is a very personal gift. Yeah. So, you know, for family and friends, I think giving a personal autumn is more comfortable. What are some things, specific things that you would look to buy, like your sisters or like your your mom, someone more close to you, a a close friend, even.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um, for my sisters specifically, I this past year, actually for Christmas, I asked for um this sunscreen by color science, but it actually is your foundation. Um flex. Yes, but yes, it's good. It's so good. I do too.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't know. I am actually.

SPEAKER_02:

But I think if you don't incorporate it into your everyday routine, it's if you don't have something that's convenient, you're probably not gonna use it. And so for the convenience of it being my everyday makeup, it's been so beneficial to me. I feel like that would be my number one gift for both of my sisters if I was getting them something skincare this year and also microneedling. I like those. What about you?

SPEAKER_04:

Same. I was just thinking one of my girlfriends, um, well, several of my girlfriends, every time or anytime we talk about skincare, color science is my number one, especially for people with like I mean, if you want to make it specific. So for people with um normal to even oily skin, I love it because it's so light. Um if you wanted a thicker sunscreen, some people love like the CeraVee tinted, um, it's in the black bottle. Revision. Oh yeah, yeah. Um the Intel shade is thicker. So for someone that has maybe more dry skin, they would like that. And then I also love the eye patches. So all of my friends are moms, they have young kids. Yeah, but um, or sister-in-law or my mom. I mean, she has the grandkids a lot, so I love, love, love the eye patches with caffeine, nice inamide. Um, some of them even have retinol in them, which is nice. Oh, I've not seen that. I always recommend putting them in the refrigerator. Yeah. And it feels like a mini spot because we have to do it.

SPEAKER_00:

Also, the swelling under our swelling, too. It does. That's my favorite. And I think too, you know, family and friends, maybe you spend a little bit more. So that's kind of where like maybe a red light mask. Yeah. That's a great purchase for them. You know, maybe things like, you know, along the lines like what you're talking about, medical grade products, micro needling, chemical peeling, yeah, Botox and filler. I think that's a great gift to give someone. Again, it's kind of a it it you don't want to certainly give someone a gift for filler or Botox and be like, hey, you know, those wrinkles. Yeah. You know what I mean? So that's where I think, you know, a family member that maybe you know already gets it. Yeah. Or, you know, a close friend that's maybe thinking, I'm I'm maybe ready to do it, but I'd kind of like to go with a friend and have it done for the first time. You can give them a gift card and make it a friend's date. Yes. So I think that is definitely, you know, a good way to do those gifts for the people that you're closest to. Those are going to be your higher price point items. Right. Those are certainly going to be your more personal gifts. Yeah. But what about for like teachers, teacher gifts? Because obviously those are not quite as personal, you know. But I think that there are some good options for teachers. What would you think for a teacher gift?

SPEAKER_02:

Similar to the under-eye patches that Autumn was talking about, there's the Vichy89 under eye gel. I love that. I use it every single day. It's really, really great. Um, so that probably that's the first thing my mind goes to. Yeah. I think that's a great option. And then the under-eye patches, like um what Autumn was saying. Yeah, those are good, good choices.

SPEAKER_04:

I would say too, I don't know if I mean it's not as fun of a gift, but it's realistic. Like um La Roche Posey, the Lippicar, because you're washing your hands all the time. Yeah. You're moving papers around, and some people have, I mean, that's an irritant. That's true. Um, I love, love, love the triple repair, which I have drier skin. Y'all know this about me. Um, but I like bathe in that stuff. So anyone, nurses, anyone that's having to wash their hands frequently.

SPEAKER_00:

Hand sanitizer, yeah. Cleaning solutions on the tables for the kids, yeah. Seasons, snottiness, yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah. Um, I love, love, love that moisturizer.

SPEAKER_00:

Even like a Laneige, like a Lineage. I think that's a great option because then it's something, you know, that they would enjoy, but not, again, not too personal. Right. You know, same thing for like babyfoot. Do you want to baby foot? Have you done that? The foot mask? I haven't.

SPEAKER_04:

Do you do that every year?

SPEAKER_00:

Y'all.

SPEAKER_04:

Like I remember hearing you talk about it like once a year. And you just, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

I love it. It is one of the most disgusting things ever. It's like a peel-off. It's definitely a peel-off. Yeah. I have to get that. It is, oh my gosh. It's worth doing, but it is if feet gross you out. Oh, this is an intense kind of peel, though. That doesn't bother me at all. Oh, you would like you would really like it. Not at our job, yeah. Right. But I'm gonna enjoy it. It's a foot mask that you put on and you leave it on for like, I don't know, like an hour or something. And then what I do with mine, just to make it work like even better, I'll use like the userine urea topical. So, like for a few days after I do the foot pill, I'll put the topical on. Man, that skin peels, it falls off like a snake. That's awesome. I love it.

SPEAKER_01:

Send me the link for that.

SPEAKER_00:

I really will get it. I it's it's amazing. So that would be a nice teacher, yeah. Maybe some like eloquent.

SPEAKER_04:

Yes. Yeah, the fluffy socks. Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. And this is basic, but teachers also need sunscreen because they're if they go sit outside during recess, but anyway. For sure. And this is kind of a different situation. But even if it if it's a male teacher or if it's your dad or something, skincare can be kind of difficult, especially because a lot of times I know my dad, he doesn't like the feeling of lotion. But um, there's a La Roche poste matte moisturizer, and he loves it. And his hands are super dry, and it's the only thing he'll use on them. So I always get him the matte moisturizer and he he actually does use it. That's actually a perfect segue into men.

SPEAKER_00:

Perfect. The man in your life, your husband, your dad, a son, the nephew. What about skincare options for men? What would be some good Christmas gifts for men?

SPEAKER_04:

I'm gonna jump right in. I'll get it.

SPEAKER_00:

Two for one. The the two in one concept. Getting men to do a multi-step skincare routine. Some will.

SPEAKER_04:

Right.

SPEAKER_00:

A lot don't. So I know for my husband personally, doing the moisturizer with the SPF in it has been a game changer for him. He loves it. Yeah. And he actually puts it on every day. He uses the La Roche Posey. Okay. Yeah. So I mean, it's even a little bit for him. Right. It shocks me, but all it took was me buying it and setting it on the counter. He has to see it every day, and he actually puts it on. I know. I'm I'm so proud. I love that. I love the two-in-one thing for men. It's just it's easy, and I think that they're more likely to do it. Yeah. I think a topical retinoid for men too. If you're looking at someone who's maybe like maybe a little more likely to do something like that, I think a medical grade retinoid over a prescription tretinoid for a man definitely is a good starting point. They're not, they don't want to peel, they don't want the whole thing. But you know, something like a medical grade, they're gonna get all the benefits, but they're just not gonna get all the irritation. Yeah. That's a great what else do you think for a man?

SPEAKER_04:

I like, uh, and I actually have my dad using this, um, he hates sunscreen notoriously and works outside a lot, so sweats, gets dirty, dirt, and whatever he does out there. I love, and my patients have heard me talk about this. I know I've talked to you about this. The Trader Joe's, it's like a super goop dupe. Yes. Um, I'm obsessed with it. That's a good one. He absolutely loved it. It's the only sunscreen he'll use. Oh, really? Because as soon as it's like a gel, so as soon as you put it on, it dries. Yeah. It doesn't feel like you have anything on your skin. Um, I actually probably need to put that in his stocking separate.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. That's a good stocking separate. It's also like, what,$7.99?

SPEAKER_04:

Oh my gosh, it's so cheap. So cheap. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

The texture is really nice. It's a very nice lightweight product, I have to say. Especially with also who have acne-prone skin. Like when you go to the beach, even a dozen people think about wearing sunscreen all the time. And when you have acne-prone skin, the last thing you want is to put something on that feels super heavy. So something like that, um, Trader Joe's Unseen Sunscreen Dupe. It is so light, and you don't even realize that you're wearing it after you put it on. I took it on a bachelorette trip, actually on several this year. And there were so many girls who asked me for the link to it, and they went and bought them at Trader Joe's because they loved it.

SPEAKER_00:

It's so good.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, and I'm at you setting trends. Thank you. It was actually Autumn, and Autumn told me, Look at you setting trends.

SPEAKER_00:

I know, y'all. It's too much. I like the idea too for a man. Have y'all heard of tinned skin? T-E-N-D. Tinned skin. I don't think so. Really? Yeah. This is kind of like old school, but you can still get it on Amazon. You can get it, I think, on Target's website, even. But it's like an app, not an after shave, because that's not what it is, but it's like an after-shaving topical that you can put on. So for men that get folliclitis or inflamed, like in their beard area, you put it on a cotton ball, kind of like an astringent, yeah, and you apply it. And I'm telling you, it is so effective at treating that razor burn. Now, it burns like the devil. I mean, it actually is. No kidding. It burns so much at first. But, you know, kind of like one of those things, the more you use it, the less it burns. Yeah, you know it is. But I will say, my husband, again, poor bless his heart, he's been a guinea pig forever. But I had him using it. It really is. So he's used it and it literally does work. So that is awesome. Yeah, that's a skin. It's in a blue bottle. Like I said, it's kind of an old school thing. Like it was had its day maybe like 15 years ago or so. But I mean, it's still available and it still is effective. That's awesome. Mm-hmm. What about UV treatment for razors for a man? So, like you can put their razor like in a UV treatment. Yeah. And cell phones? Yeah. Because I'm always like, how often are you changing your razor out? Yeah. Probably not enough, you know?

SPEAKER_02:

Unless I do it for you.

SPEAKER_00:

Literally, yeah. And this can sit on the counter. They have them, they're very small. You can put the razor, like a bladed razor, or like a top of like what like an electric razor, put it in there, and it sterilizes it.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

I like that a lot. That's a good option. Good for like a son, too. Yeah, I know. I have really had to do my research on this one for me because I was like, I don't typically buy my husband's skincare, but you know, we're talking about it today, so why not? Another one I wanted to go back to the teacher when I had this on my list, cuticle oil. So that's a good one, kind of going back to the dry hand thing. Yeah. So cuticle oil, maybe a vitamin E type cuticle oil. Yeah. That could be also really good.

SPEAKER_04:

You know what I love for that? That's super cheap.

SPEAKER_00:

What?

unknown:

Do you want to guess?

SPEAKER_00:

Aquafour? Vaseline. I was gonna ask guess Aquafour also.

SPEAKER_04:

The tub, Vaseline, you just put it all over. Which cuticle oil is more aesthetic? It's cute.

SPEAKER_00:

You can paint it, it's a little more controlled, I guess. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Um, but no, Vaseline every single night, keep it on your nightstand. If you put it in your little um basket, yeah. That's cute. But I hands down, it's cheap. It works, incredibly effective for so many things.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I love being here in a basket is such a cute idea. I like just picturing it. Yes, me too. It's adorable. It's a little scalloped wicker basket, and I can see the bow on top of it. That's what my brain's imagining right now.

SPEAKER_04:

So cute. That's really cute.

SPEAKER_00:

I mean, who doesn't love a gift basket? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

I love to make gift baskets.

SPEAKER_00:

You make the cutest gift baskets ever. You actually really do. Actually, you both do. I saw your gift basket that you did when we did a um the event at the workout. Yeah. Yes. That was really cute too. Thank you. We should make some gift baskets up at the office. That would be adorable. It should be our favorite things. Yeah. It'd be like the Emily gift basket or the Autumn or the Chandler gift basket. That would be adorable. Right. We need to do that. We should do that. Yeah. That would be so fun. We're doing it.

SPEAKER_04:

When you come in for your appointment, you get a ticket and you could put your gift. Yes. And at the end of the month, we raffle it.

SPEAKER_00:

That is such a cute idea. We're doing it. We have to do that Monday when we get back to work. Okay, now the loaded question. Okay. Daughters, teenagers, teenage girl skincare. Because I can tell you we buy the heck out of some skincare at home for my two daughters. They gotta do those skin marathons. Sore spot. Yes. We have so much skincare at our house. Yeah. So, you know, there's the pharmacy skincare stuff that they begrudgingly, I think, use that I'll make them use in a spot because it's good. Yeah. Stuff that works. But then there's the trendy skincare. Yeah. So let's talk about Sephora. They go into Sephora. What are some things inside Sephora that we would direct parents toward that would be good for a teenage girl?

SPEAKER_02:

They have Supergoop sunscreen there. And it is in such a cute bottle. And that is aesthetically pleasing. That's actually what I go to. Yeah. I don't know if Sephora has it in stock, but I know online we had talked about the powdered sunscreen. A lot of times, especially daughters. Do they? They do. Okay, good. That's right. I got it online. I didn't know if they had it in store.

SPEAKER_00:

Which is it? It's a little pricey. Is it like colorful? Yeah, I think 40 to 50. Yeah. Okay. But I mean, think about it like this. It's a foundation. Yeah. And it's a sunscreen. Right. So you're really getting two products in one. So to justify that$50 cost, which I mean, it's still a high price point for a teenage girl, but you're getting two things in one.

SPEAKER_04:

And I literally never wore sunscreen as a teenager.

SPEAKER_00:

I mean, that's what I was about to say.

SPEAKER_02:

Right?

SPEAKER_04:

Hands down.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. If they're if they're going to use that powder and even just like a quick brush is going to help them have any type of skin protection from the sun, I think it's worth it. I agree.$40,$45,$50 is worth it. I totally agree. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

The ordinary. That's when when we go into Sephora, I immediately am directing Olivia. I'm like, let's go to the back right corner. It's back right corner. Because that is like, I think for what you pay, I mean, it's a really reasonable price point. It's a great product. Yeah. I mean, they can get that Sephora shopping bag that they're after when they go in there. You know what I mean? Yes. So I love their azoleic acid. I think that's great, especially for like early acne-prone patients or pregnant patients. That's a good option too. Um, they have a good hyaluronic acid. So I think the ordinary, if you're looking for a good product line at Sephora, that's one that I typically do direct. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Um, glycolic acids. I recommend that for like you do the baby feet. Yeah. I will tell people to get a cotton ball, put it on their feet, and then put Vaseline on, white cotton socks, and it does essentially the same thing. Interesting. And you can use it like if you have ingrown hair or um acanthosis hyperpigmentation under the arms and the neck. You can use that on a cotton socks.

SPEAKER_00:

That's the ordinary. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

I've not done it for that over like super cheap.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't know that I knew that. I've only seen like their small, like serum-sized bottles.

SPEAKER_04:

You know, like a a bigger what shape is this? It's an egg-shaped.

SPEAKER_00:

It has an egg-shaped bottle.

SPEAKER_04:

We're not talking shapes. It has a bigger bottle, but it has like a drop nozzle. Like you twist it and then you can kind of just drip it out of the bottle.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, yeah. I think about it all this time. Especially for like an astringent. Yeah. I heard you telling someone like I think yesterday about that exact thing. Yeah. Interesting. Yeah. And astringents, I know that, you know, my daughter, she she's about to be 14. She loves to use an astringent. And I don't know where y'all stand on astringents, but sometimes I'm like, you know, sometimes they're good. They can sometimes be good, but sometimes they're not, especially if you're using other products or, you know, things that are skin irritants and you're using like a glycolic astringent. That that can be a little much. So I think a hydrating astringent can be a good option. Bubble is another brand that is at Walmart. So yeah. So it's kind of like where Cera V and Cetophil live on the shelf. Yes. Bubble is actually a pretty good little product line. It's not one that I mainstream recommend to patients, but I mean, I've been pretty impressed with their products. And their bottles are pretty cute, right? Their bottles are so cute.

SPEAKER_02:

For a daughter, that's gonna be what draws them to that. They're gonna use it if it's in a cute bottle.

SPEAKER_00:

Every time. Yeah. And it actually really is. It's very colorful.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

They have they are kind of stacked funny, but they have a moisturizer that's one of those that you click the top and the moisturizer comes out. Oh cute. It is actually a really cute like marketing that they've done with that product. So Walmart, that's a good option. Bubble. Naturally, CeraVee, Ceta Phil, La Roche-Posay.

SPEAKER_04:

I do like um, I feel like it looks higher end, like their B5. It does. And their retinol. Um it's in a red bottle, so it looks really alarming, but it's a it looks so hot. It's like the bottle looks hot. It does. And then the thought of a retinoid on my life. I know.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't love that.

SPEAKER_04:

But it's the medicine isn't red. Yeah. But if you're wanting like a glass bottle, so you can like tap it. Yeah. Everybody likes to tap on stuff now.

SPEAKER_00:

ASMR.

SPEAKER_04:

So it's perfectly trendy in that sense.

SPEAKER_00:

It is. But it does look so hot. It looks like it would literally burn your skin off when you put it on. But it's just in the bottle. But it does. I will say I do like using it, like backs of the hands. Oh, yeah. So like anti-aging.

SPEAKER_04:

And then put my moisturizer on. Yeah. That's true.

SPEAKER_00:

Ilya is another product at Sephora that I really, really like.

SPEAKER_04:

More higher end. It is, but I love it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I think for a makeup, I'll again go back to like the multi-stick concept. Yeah. You can be what is a purse. Do you really?

SPEAKER_04:

Use it as blush, use it as lipstick. Um I even is it color science? I have color science. You showed me that one.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, color science has the little blush, the SPF. That's really nice. And the lip SPF. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

But they have a multi-stick.

SPEAKER_00:

Ilya or color science. Oh, I've not seen color science as multiple.

SPEAKER_04:

It's also in my purse, I think. Um color science.

SPEAKER_00:

Where's your purse? Just dump it out.

SPEAKER_04:

Just dump it out.

SPEAKER_00:

It's like the Mary Poppins purse. She's gonna pull the umbrella.

SPEAKER_04:

SPF in it. The Ilya, unless they've updated it, it didn't have SPF, which is a bummer because they make some baby sunscreen products. Yeah. That's true. Ilya, if you're listening, more sunscreen. Right. But yeah, I do love those.

SPEAKER_00:

That's a good product. And I love the Laneige products, obviously, too, for the girls. And they always have like a fun little holiday flavor scent. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04:

Do they do like a trio?

SPEAKER_00:

I've not seen the trio. Last year was the peppermint.

SPEAKER_04:

Trader Joe's and all their dupes. They will do um they have a Laneige uh dupe, but they'll do like a holiday trio.

SPEAKER_00:

Oh, that's fine.

SPEAKER_02:

So it'll be like vanilla, sugar cookie, the scent or the trio. Like there's three different scents. Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_04:

But yeah. And they're that's interesting. Small their minis. That would be perfect for like a yeah, stocking stuff.

SPEAKER_00:

Honestly, the minis are good because I don't know about y'all, but the Laneige that I have, man, it has lasted like I'm on my original one that I've had for like it's expired. It has long expired. We're well beyond that.

SPEAKER_04:

Well, maybe you'll have something special in your stock.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Oh that should be in the gift basket. It should be, yeah. That'd be a good one. Good idea.

SPEAKER_04:

I love this idea.

SPEAKER_00:

I do too.

SPEAKER_04:

That's really cute.

SPEAKER_00:

So I saw something on the Today show last week talking about kind of kids and skincare. There's a new skincare, we'll call it a skincare line that's coming out where it is geared toward toddlers. On what? It's a hydrating sheet mask that is geared toward three-year-olds and up. Where do y'all stand on that? What's in the hydrating sheet mask? It's not anything like glycolic or um, you know, retinoid. It's nothing that's going to be exfoliant, obviously, because it's for a child, young child. But it is geared at being probably hyaluronic acid. I didn't look at the ingredients yet, but it is a hydrating sheet mask. They're cute. They're like, it's like a little teddy bear face. It is very much geared toward young, young children. Like not even teenage. So like very young. Yeah. What do y'all think about that?

SPEAKER_04:

I think let kids be kids is a toddler. Um I know. I mean, it seems like now, and I don't want to sound like I'm 80, but like the world is geared at like prematurely aging girls and women, especially. Um and I think just let kids be kids. I mean, if they watch you do a math and they want one, it's a great option, I guess, in that instance. But otherwise, like get a three-year-old something that a three-year-old would need.

SPEAKER_01:

Right, like Aquifore. I feel like that would be a great emollient.

SPEAKER_04:

Like, I don't know a child that like my nephew, you have to tackle him in like rodeo hom time.

SPEAKER_00:

Little girls are different though. Girls are different. They at a young age, and I speak from experience. My youngest, my oldest not so much, because she didn't have she wasn't exposed to it, but my youngest, she has seen her older sister have these things. Yeah. So it's funny because when I first saw this on the Today show, my instinct was, oh my gosh, this is this is too much. This is just marketing at its best right now. Yeah. However, we bought those sheet masks for our kids when they were little because, especially my youngest, her sister was doing them and she liked them and she wanted to do it too. Yeah. Now, I think a large part of it is as the parent, how do you set the tone with your child? You I think you know, there are times where obviously you need to say no. But I think that if you're angling it from the side of, okay, we need to talk about skincare. Skincare's important, beauty's important, all of these things, that's unhealthy for a toddler, especially for anyone, but especially a young child. They're gonna be exposed to these things, they're gonna see it, their friends are gonna do it, they're gonna be exposed on that's right. Yeah, literally. So, like I said, my instinct when I saw it was ooh. Yeah. But then the more I thought about it, I was like, you know, if it's hydrating their skin, it's not harmful, they're not in the kitchen whipping up some sort of weird concoction of ingredients to put on their face, which is also the TikTok trend, then it's like maybe it's not so bad.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. So the ingredients are clean and it's not like a super potent smelling bath and body lotion that they're wanting to put on their face. For sure. It's not as bad as that. Yeah. I don't know if three-year-olds have interest in specifically a sheet mask, but maybe once they're six or seven and they can actually, you know, if they have an older sibling like what you're talking about, seeing them do it, if it's harmless, just make sure you check the ingredients and everything that's included before you, you know, apply it on your child. But I think it's also it's a it's a deeper conversation of instilling confidence too in your children. And, you know, this we could talk for days about that.

SPEAKER_00:

You go in that call. So I think this is an important topic.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. I mean, your skin doesn't define you. You obviously want to take care of it, but um, you respect it.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes. Respect your skin the way you respect any other organ of your body. Absolutely. But to your point, you're right. It doesn't make you any more or less beautiful. Yes. You're beautiful regardless. Yes. But I do think that teaching a good skincare routine, along with a good just hygiene routine for a child. Yeah. Tell them, you know, the importance of brushing their teeth. Yes. Along with the importance of wear your sunscreen, take care of your skin. Yeah. You know, I think to your point, it is a bigger conversation to have. But just for the fun. Yeah. If they're looking for a product, I think a hydrating face mask, they don't need anything, certainly, that's an active ingredient like a retinoid, none of that.

SPEAKER_02:

For sure.

SPEAKER_00:

You know, even if until they get to the point where they have acne really, they just don't need that stuff. And even when they do get to that point, that's really a conversation to have with a dermatology provider. Yeah. I don't even love it when parents just go out and buy acne treatments for their kids without really knowing what they are buying. But yeah, I was interested to hear your thoughts on that because I thought I don't love the thought of marketing to a child. Yeah. That I don't feel like is right. But the concept behind it, I kind of get it too.

SPEAKER_04:

As long as it's a child safe option. I have seen like Disney princess masks and things like that. But I do think it's a slippery slope. Yeah. And especially with like social media and everything they see and having unrealistic expectations of what skin is supposed to look like.

SPEAKER_00:

And beauty in general. Right. What is beauty? Right.

SPEAKER_04:

Like it's not the airbrush person that you're seeing on Instagram.

SPEAKER_00:

Or the straight AI person that's not even real. I mean, that's where we're at now.

SPEAKER_04:

It's just not real. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Yeah. What about other gifts? What do you like to get? So if someone was gonna be buying you a gift, what would you like?

SPEAKER_02:

Several times. I have been gifted by my family and it's not offensive because they know I use it. But the Panoxal pimple patches. Oh people colloid patch. It's a slippery slope with that because you don't want to give someone a pimple patch if you don't know that you've had if you haven't had the conversation about acne. Um, but I use them and I love them. They're hydrocolloid and they're infused with benzyl peroxide. So there's so many great things, healing properties and anti-acne properties of those of those panoxyl pimple patches. I like those. I do too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

And if you just get the hydrocoloid ones, um, gosh, you can use that for everything. Like if you have a mosquito bite, yeah, you can pop that on there. If you have, yes, a little Prago nodule, cover it, it'll help it heal. Yeah. Um, that again, I'm just picturing a little skincare basket.

SPEAKER_00:

I love it.

SPEAKER_04:

You can make the gift basket without like making it feel like, oh, this is because you have acne.

SPEAKER_00:

That's why I say skincare is interesting because it is such a personal gift in some ways, but yet that's why, you know, this podcast, I wanted to do this episode today because I think that there are things that you can give to other people that are in your life that doesn't feel like, well, this is a weird gift, right? You know what I mean? Or this feels too personal, or what are you saying? I've got wrinkles, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04:

Or like for a parent, my mom, um, which we talk about everything, but if we didn't, and I wanted to get her something, a gift card to the office, so she could have like she could get the Botox if she wanted it, she could have microneedling if she wanted it, or she could just get skincare, like skincare products. Everybody loves those. Um so if you aren't really sure, then just what do you think about medical grade skincare for teens?

SPEAKER_00:

Skin suitals for a teenager.

SPEAKER_02:

I think it depends on their specific needs. Um, if they're really struggling with acne and want to use medical grade skin suiticals, um yeah, skin suiticals retinal, I think that's not a bad option, especially if you want to start there before doing a prescription strength. Um, vitamin C topical, I think is a great option for daily skin protection. I use a topical vitamin C every single day. Um, it's not the skin suiticals one, but I think it depending on what age teenage we're talking about. If they're, you know, 13, don't their skin is, you know, they had the little porcelain baby skin still, it's it's a different situation. But if you're 19 and use medical grade skincare, I think that makes a difference. Older teens, yes.

SPEAKER_00:

I like the idea of the retinol. I think that the B5 hydrator, so the hyaluronic acid, I also really like that too. So if you are looking to invest into a good skincare product that is medical grade for your older teen, I think that that one's a really good one, especially if they are using something like an exfoliant, because I think that B5 hydrator is gonna restore that hyaluronic acid without feeling oily or too thick on the skin. I do too. And I think it's a really nice compliment to a retinoid. In fact, with a lot of patients, when I'm talking about medical grade, it's almost like with a retinoid, let's go ahead and just talk about the hyaluronic acid because while one exfoliates, the other is going behind and hydrating it. So I think that that could be a really good option for a medical grade product. Yeah. Vitamin C's, though, for teens. I think that you kind of have to be careful though with acne-prone skin with a vitamin C because I think some of them really, while I love vitamin C serums, I think they some can sometimes can clog pores. Right. The silly marin, yeah, the vitamin C that Skin Seuticals has, that one I think is excellent for teens, older teens, young adults that are looking for a good vitamin C that's not gonna clog pores. So that specific one, I think is great. Cera V also has a really nice one.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

So that one's a really good, cost-effective product. Yeah, it can be as potent.

SPEAKER_02:

That's something I looked for in mine because I do have acne prone skin. I wanted to use a vitamin C, but I wanted to find something that wasn't gonna clog my pores. So anyway, the silly marin was definitely something I considered because of that. Yeah, it's a good option.

SPEAKER_00:

It's a little pricey. It is, you know, but it's effective. It is effective. Three drops, and it takes a long time.

SPEAKER_02:

It does. Yeah. I have a question. Yeah. What about I planned this in the office with Autumn? What about something you would not gift? Something specifically that maybe you've seen gifted before, um, where you would advise against buying a certain product.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I definitely would not be buying gifts for people again that are too personal. Yeah. So kind of to your point, what you said about the pimple patches. If you have a child or a friend or a niece or a nephew that has acne, and you think, I'm gonna get them these patches. She's gonna love it. Yeah, I know she's gonna want it. But yet, like acne hasn't really been a conversation.

SPEAKER_02:

Right.

SPEAKER_00:

Definitely not doing that. So now my daughter, she loves pimple patches, like she uses them all the time. So to put them in her, you know, put them in her stocking, yeah. I think she would love that.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

But yeah, I think any kind of product that is going to create a complex, yeah, any product that someone would feel offended and not appreciate. Yeah, definitely I would steer clear of those things. So I would lean more toward if you've got your hand on a product and you're looking at it thinking, I'm just not sure. Don't get it. Just put it back. Yeah. Right. Go with something that is a slam dunk, moisturizers, hyaluronic acid. Halaluronic acid. Yes. Those things are gonna be a win every time. Sunscreen, even, but even sunscreen sometimes is personal. You know what I mean? There are certain ones that I really like that I would put on my face and others that I wouldn't. Yeah. So again, if it's one that you know that they like, absolutely get it. If you're not 100% sure, definitely don't.

SPEAKER_04:

But 10 times uh magnification mirror. Absolutely not. Yes.

SPEAKER_00:

And if you own one, throw it away in the trash. Yes.

SPEAKER_04:

Throw it in the trash.

SPEAKER_00:

However, I would say, as my vision has changed with age, I have a harder time seeing up clothes. So now I'm kind of like, hmm, this is interesting. I'm not using this to evaluate my pores anymore. I need it so I can put on my makeup. That's where I'm at in life. Outside of that instance. Teenagers don't need it.

unknown:

Perhaps.

SPEAKER_00:

Maybe it's just time for some reading glasses.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Life. I was thinking along the lines of the microneedling that you can do yourself, the rollers you can get at TJ Maxx. Yeah. I was thinking that don't get those. Yeah. That's my advice against a certain product. Because those were it was several years ago, but they came in the little clear container and you could get them at TJ Maxx. And it was just like a oh, skincare. I'm gonna get this because I've heard about this thing called microneedling. And you just rub the ball across your face. It has a handle on it. So that's something I would advise against.

SPEAKER_00:

Definitely. For several reasons.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes. Because it's not sanitized, first of all. Secondly, because the needle size of that can be very damaging to your skin and its texture. I could go on.

SPEAKER_00:

You're like getting epidermal. You're not even getting derma. Whole thing. No, a lot of issues with it. Yeah. Skincare just from TJ Maxx in general. I mean, they might have some things that are decent. I'll be honest, I don't shop the skincare at TJ Maxx, so I really don't know. Really cute home decor items. Yeah. Pretty good candles. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

Good dog toys.

SPEAKER_00:

Probably good dog toys. Skin care, probably not shopping at all. Yeah. I feel like I've seen the ordinary there once.

SPEAKER_02:

Have you? I think just once.

SPEAKER_04:

Yeah, a random good product. Yeah. But I mean, you've got the exception.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Yes. It's not every time. Obviously, everything in there changes all the time, but most of the stuff.

SPEAKER_00:

Give a shout out to Ulta because I do shop at Ulta a lot. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

And is that the one that's in Target?

SPEAKER_00:

Or is that they have one in Target now? Yeah, but it's freestanding. Um, usually. But um, I mean, they have such a good selection of really good products. Now they have like all the stuff there too, but they carry LaRoche, they carry Vichy, they carry um Cetophil, CeraVee, sometimes even products that are kind of hard to find that LaRoche or like Vichy make. Yeah, they usually have it on the aisle there, but they don't always have it. Yeah. So kind of hit or miss sometimes. Let's talk about hair though, first. Last, last, last little bit here. Yeah. So hair, you know, obviously is a part of dermatology. Are there any hair-specific brands that you guys recommend? Or something that would be a good direction for, you know, a a stocking stuffer.

SPEAKER_04:

Depends on how close you are again. If it's somebody you're close with, um I have talked about neutrophil for a gift. Depends on how close you are.

SPEAKER_00:

That's one of those purchase.

SPEAKER_04:

Um, but as long as you've had the conversation.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, neutral, talk about neutrophil is a hair growth supplement. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04:

A nutraceutical vitamin that does help. It basically decreases the effects of the hormones on the scalp, which contributes to hair loss or hair thinning.

SPEAKER_00:

Um great for males. They have a male, female, postpartum, a perimenopausal. Yeah. Yep.

SPEAKER_04:

Um, so that's a really good option. Um, a girlfriend just texted me the other day about dry brittle hair. So we talked about I like the K18 products. I don't know about that. Is it a mask? Um, so they have a mask. Okay. Um, they have an oil, they have a whole line of products. Um, but then there was one that I did find on Amazon. I can't remember the name for the life of me. I'll post it on my Instagram.

SPEAKER_00:

Stay tuned.

SPEAKER_04:

But I have it. I got sucked in and I bought it. It's like paraben-free, sulfate-free. Um, but it's just a mask. I think it was like$14. And I have the absolute best hydrated hair days when I do this mask. It's so good. I need to share it with y'all. I know.

SPEAKER_00:

Wow products. I've really gotten into those. I am why today. Are you? It's in our purse. It's also in my purse. Get that purse, I'm telling you. Dump it out. But I love all of the their hairspray. It's nice. It has a it's not too hard on your hair. Yeah. They have a really nice um, I call it hair sunscreen. So you can put it on your hair when you're out in the sun. I actually posted about it on my Instagram this past summer. Yes. And that's not something, you know, that most people think about. I mean, you think about your scalp, but you don't think about how does the sun damage my hair? Yeah. The chemicals and the, yeah, the chemicals in the pool. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

And you think about wearing a heat or spraying a heat protectant before you put heat on your hair. But in the summer, you're getting heat on your hair and UV exposure. And chemicals in the pool, like for sure. You know? Yeah. So any type of heat protectant, I would say something just to just a coat and cover your hair.

SPEAKER_00:

Wow, is that um they have that as Sephora. So that's usually where I go for that. They have a really cool um, it's like a root touch-up, but it's like a brush. It looks like um eyeshadow. And you just yeah, and you just seen that before. Yeah. But yeah, I think, you know, don't neglect hair. Right. You know, definitely some products that are out there that again, you don't want to give a complex by saying, hmm, looks like you're losing some hair. So here's the neutral fault. Yes. But you know, that's right. But if you know that that's something that they use and that they like, definitely that can be a nice gift too.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. This would I mentioned should have mentioned this earlier, but this would be another gift for someone who you are close with. Like I was thinking of my sisters, I know what kind of self-tanner they use. And if I buy them self-tanner, they're not gonna be as prone to going to lay in the sun or anything like that. So I know exactly what it is, and that would be a great stocking stuffer.

SPEAKER_00:

Which one do you recommend?

SPEAKER_02:

I like the Tannologist tanning drops, specific specifically for my lotion and my face. Um, I just either rub it, I put three drops in lotion and rub it onto my face, or they have a spray and I just spray it like arms and legs, and then I use a big brush and just blend it in circles. And it is so natural, it has no smell and it's completely clear. So I love it.

SPEAKER_04:

Uh no, and now that you ask me, I can't even I think I've done Isle of Paradise. Yeah. And then Tan Lux.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay. I like tanlux. Yeah, I do too.

SPEAKER_04:

I like the smell of it. It's a tan tail. Yeah, it doesn't have a stock tail. Yeah. Sunscreen tanning bed-ish. Yeah. Not that I ever laid bed.

SPEAKER_00:

Self tanner, just in general, I think has such a unique smell. It does. It does. But yeah, I think that the tan lux, yeah, it's really not that bad. And I think, is that a drop? Okay. I think you can get it also too in a lotion, the tanlux. I think so. Yeah. Or like a moose.

SPEAKER_04:

And then something. I just got that one not long ago.

SPEAKER_00:

I don't know about that one. Saint Tropez is a good one. Yeah. It's dark.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Last time I used it, I was like, whoo, really dark.

SPEAKER_04:

The one that I had, the last one I got, uh, which I'm basically translucent, if you think. Um, but you put it on, I think I don't know if I texted you, but I definitely text Amanda, our practice manager. And she, I was like, it I am 17 shades different than the original. But you put it on and then wash it off in two hours. And I was so worried, like I looked like a burnt turkey. Like just so bright orange. Um, but it it got it eased up. But you had to trust the process. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

No, I definitely like that. That's a good one because again, it sort of gives that message of like no tanning bed, right? Suntan. Let's do a safe tan.

SPEAKER_02:

They even have that at CVS. At the checkout. Yeah, I know the CVS in North Shore. There's a at the checkout, they have it just sitting there, the smaller bottles of it, which is a perfect stocking stuffer.

SPEAKER_00:

That's such an impulse right there at the checkout. I actually wasn't even looking for it. Yeah. You're on IMPAL. You see yourself in the camera at the checkout. That's the marketing behind that. Oh, that's what it is. You see the camera and you're like, no.

SPEAKER_02:

CVS has the has the cameras too. Yeah. Just turn and grab a sting. Turn and get this.

SPEAKER_04:

We didn't talk about that. We talked about the Laneige masks, but also that would be a really good stocking staffer, teacher gift. I mean, all the things. Dr. Dan's.

SPEAKER_00:

I love Dr. Dan's. That would be a perfect gift for the man in your life. Yeah. Because it's not glossy. Yes. Doesn't look like anything is on, but man, it is good stuff.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, so good, yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. And I think don't can't you get it with an SPF too? Yeah, I thought so. So SPF hydrates your skin or hydrates your lip. Great for that wintertime chapped lip for sure.

SPEAKER_04:

One of my girlfriends got me, um, actually for my birthday, the Vaseline stick. I'm obsessed with it.

SPEAKER_02:

I have I've had the aquifer stick. Yeah, same.

SPEAKER_04:

So I have seen the aquifer. I've never seen the Vaseline. It's like a fat stick, but it I'm obsessed with it.

SPEAKER_00:

Do you put it like elbows?

SPEAKER_04:

I keep it on my bedside table and I put it like especially if I'm using my room. I do. I put it on my eyes, I'll put it all over my lips. In the winter, if you get chaps, you can put it like around your nose. I mean, it just literally anywhere.

SPEAKER_00:

Another multi-stick.

SPEAKER_04:

It's amazing. Great for Accutane patients. That's true. If you are friends with or have a child that's an Accutane patient, um, or if you're on it, right, right. I love it. I tell all my patients about it now.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah, I've never thought that. Aquafour also has the spray. Aquaphor spray is so weird. At first when you spray it on if it's like frosting almost, like it's a glistening frosting. But it doesn't feel as greasy. It really actually doesn't. It doesn't feel as greasy. And that's good for like your back. So if it's a hard-to-reach area, so that's actually a really good one. Put it in the refrigerator, it gets cold. So it's good. They put not me. None of us.

unknown:

Never.

SPEAKER_00:

All right. Well, I think that we have put all of the products out there, all of the things for our listeners and patience to be able to go to the store and buy a gift confidently for that person that they care about in their life. Yes. Stay tuned for these baskets. They're coming. Yes.
